Paraguayan Soccer Star Cabañas Regains Consciousness

February 1, 2010 By Andrew OReilly

Paraguayan soccer player Salavdor Cabañas regained consciousness and spoke to his family for the first time since he was shot in the head last Monday in a Mexico City bar, according to a report from ESPN.

“He is speaking normally, asks questions and greeted his doctors and family,” Dr Ernesto Martínez, who operated on Cabañas, told a news conference. “Things are very favorable, much more encouraging,” he added.

Mexican authorities have yet to find the man responsible for the shooting, which allegedly occurred after Cabanas taunted the man, according to a statement taken by the bar’s bathroom attendant.

Cabañas remains in a Mexico City hospital with the bullet still lodged in his head.
