Mexico Sends More Troops To Tijuana To Combat Drug Cartels

The Mexican government plans to send an additional 860 soldiers to the border city of Tijuana to combat the drug cartels operating within the region, according to an Associated Press story published in the Dallas Morning News.

Tijuana has seen nearly 200 people killed since Dec. 1 of last year and is regarded as one of the hotspots for violence between warring drug cartels in Mexico.

Since Mexican President Felipe Calderón launched the offensive against the drug cartels in 2007, more than 15,000 have been killed in drug related violence.
