Cartagena, Beyond The UNESCO Heritage Walls

Shoemaker Ever Jiménez Bauilla has been working in one corner of a bloc of haphazard wooden shacks for 15 years. Just a few feet in front of his humming machines are carts pregnant with several varieties of tropical fruit; behind him looms an abandoned, decrepit office building. “Everyone knows where La Matuna is,” he says.
